Fort Bend Psychological Association (FBPA) was formally organized in the early 1990's as a non-profit association to promote psychology as a science and as a profession, to promote human welfare and mental health, and to provide a basis for professional growth and social interaction among area psychologists and other mental health professionals.
FBPA continues this mission through educational activities, interaction with other mental health organizations, and the promotion of mental health needs and services. Not only does it meet these goals today, but in serves to champion the benefits of psychology to this community.
An important focus continues to be the monthly meetings. These involve engaging presentations by different experts accompanied by lively discussion about the topic presented. These events are good learning and sharing times. Members receive Pd credits without charge for participating in these meetings. Members can receive between 15 - 20 Pd hours/year for attending the monthly meetings.
In addition, FBPA currently sponsors 2 workshops each year, one in the spring and another in the fall. Three-hour workshops involve in-depth presentations by a subject-area expert. One workshop typically focuses on an ethical aspect of practice, while the other usually focuses on understanding and appreciating diversity among people. Members are able to register for these workshops at a discount.
PD/CE credit is earned both for the monthly presentations and for the workshops. Credit is approved, because FBPA is a Local Area Society (LAS) affiliated with the Texas Psychological Association. Members can expect to earn between 15 - 20 PD/CE credits per year for attending all events.
