Using an integrative approach, this workshop will consider principles from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) that are frequently used to conceptualize and treat anxiety and related disorders. We’ll focus on big-picture concepts and methods that apply to all anxiety disorders, along with disorder-specific considerations to help therapists choose the treatment strategies most likely to address clients’ unique concerns.

Training Objectives:

  • Explore the common elements of anxiety and related disorders.
  • Explain the rationale for frequently used treatment approaches.
  • Highlight the disorder-specific problems that may not respond well to traditional methods.
  • Identify creative therapeutic strategies for addressing subtle or difficult-to-treat symptoms.
  • Simplify the integrative approach to treatment planning.
  • Consider options for helping clients flexibly choose and use anxiety management strategies that help them most.
