About our Speakers:
Sam J. Buser, Ph.D.
Dr. Sam J. Buser is a psychologist in Houston, Texas where he specializes in the treatment of relationship problems and in psychotherapy for men. He is the senior staff psychologist for the nation’s third largest fire department where he is responsible for crisis assistance to first responders. A faculty member of the Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston, he is also an Army veteran and the former director of the Family Therapy Program at the Houston VA Medical Center. A frequent media presenter, he currently is the co-host of the podcast, Leaving the Valley—What You Should Know about Suicide. He has appeared on numerous radio shows and podcasts as well as on the Montell Williams Show. He is also the co-author of the Guys-Only Guide to Getting Over Divorce. A former president of the Texas and Houston Psychological Associations, he was honored in 2016 as Practitioner of the Year by Division 51 of the American Psychological Association. In 2017, he was recognized for Outstanding Contribution to Public Service by the Texas Psychological Association. Sam has been taught a lot about love, relationships, and balancing work and family by his wife of more than 40 years, two beloved daughters, and his 2 lovely granddaughters.
Michael Winters, PhD
Michael Winters is a licensed psychologist, speaker, teacher, and storyteller. He is a former president of the Houston Psychological Association and former Director of the Rice University Counseling Center. Currently, Dr. Winters is in the private practice of psychotherapy and specializes in counseling individuals and couples in relationships on the ‘edge’ (www.IsDivorceRightForUs.com) and helping professionals transition to retirement (www.RetireToVitality.com). He has taught at Rice University, Purdue University, the University of Houston, the Jung Center of Houston, and many other universities and organizations. Dr. Winters holds a Diplomate in Logotherapy (Viktor Frankl’s Meaning-centered psychotherapy) and has served on the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy board. A Moth Story Slam Champion, Dr. Winters serves on the Houston Storytellers Guild board and teaches storytelling (www.TheStoryVoice.com). He also studies Improvisational theater. His greatest accomplishment and joy is grandfathering.
